Crowdfunding Video

Updated: May 16, 2021

This is my plan for what we're going to say in the crowdfunding video.

Opening Cinematic

Welcome

Hello everyone! Thank you for taking the time to check out our film, The Hollow Men. We’re really excited about it. I think it has the potential to be a fantastic wee project.

Who We Are

First of all though, just to tell you a wee bit about who we are; we’re a group of film students at Edinburgh Napier and this is our final film at university; so we’re really pulling out all stops for it.

We should probably introduce ourselves and I guess I’ll go first:

I’m Dan. I’m directing and co-writing The Hollow Men.

Does someone else want to fire away?

I’m Ruth and I’m the producer.

I’m Aaron and I’m the cinematographer and the other co-writer alongside Dan.

I’m Hollie and I’m one of the production designers.

I’m Korina and I’m the other production designer.

I’m Juliet and I’m the sound designer.

And I’m Harris and I’m the editor.

Beautiful work, guys. Thank you.

Synopsis

So, a wee bit about the film; the film follows a world-weary hitman who must decide whether to continue down the self-destructive path that he’s on and help his sadistic partner kill their target, or to reach for one last chance at redemption by letting the target go.

Inspirations

The Hollow Men is a crime-drama which takes a lot of inspiration from the revisionist western genre. These are films which question the ideals of traditional westerns, where instead of being black and white, they very much depict morally grey worlds.

The film explores themes of regret and mortality, questioning what happens to us after we die. But all the while, there is a dark sense of humour running throughout.

Some films in particular which have influenced The Hollow Men are things like the Coen brothers’ Blood Simple and No Country For Old Men, Andrew Dominik’s The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford and Jim Jarmusch’s Dead Man.

The film also draws heavy inspiration from folk music, particularly murder ballads. Stylistically and tonally, the film draws from artists like Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave, Bob Dylan...

Money

So how can you help us? We have big plans for The Hollow Men. But we just cannot do it without your support. There are all kinds of costs involved in this film, like location, costumes and special effects. Every penny will be spent wisely and go towards making this film the best that it can be.

We know that during this time, everyone is a bit short on the old funds, so we really do appreciate even the smallest donation. Every penny adds up and goes a long way towards helping us make this film a reality.

If you don’t feel like you’re in a position to give right now, we totally understand; thank you for your interest in the film. Something else you could do to support us which would be a massive help, is to share our film on social media. We’re on Facebook and Instagram, so if you could help share the film around, we’d really appreciate it.

Thank you so much for your support. We’re looking forward to getting stuck into making The Hollow Men and we cannot wait for you to see it. Thank you.
