For Tableau 1, we had to create a 50 second film with a stationary camera and no dialogue, to reflect the Lumiere brothers’ first films. I was in a group with Megan Banyard, Juliet Brown and Andrew Beattie.
I feel that we did work well together, even if we were initially a little disorganized. We really pulled together to complete the task. Since we weren’t allowed to move the camera, we experimented with depth of field and telling a story on multiple layers within the one shot.
The finished film works pretty well, however it does have its faults. We positioned the foreground and midground in the shadow of trees, but this meant that when the mugger ran away far into the background, he came out a little too bright. Some of the acting could have been better too, but since they aren’t actually actors, I think we can forgive them for grinning a little during filming!
The film can be seen here.
