In researching film festivals, it got me thinking about, not just the cost of applying to festivals, but the cost of traveling to them if I actually got in to any. If it's UK based, that's not too bad. I should be able to do that. But internationally, that's different. I probably wouldn't be able to afford doing something like that.
However, that's when I discovered the British Film Council actually offer a travel grant for this very purpose. They discribe it as "We offer grants to help short filmmakers and VR makers travel to international festivals where their work is being screened."
I didn't know things like this existed, so I thought I'd look closer.
Short filmmakers can apply for travel grants to attend international film festivals and events where their work is being screened. This is a great opportunity to reach new audiences and develop new networks.
Travel grants range from £100 to £1500 and they offer a contribution towards travel and accommodation costs. However, it may not always cover the full cost of attendance.
The film festivals included must appear on the British Council’s Key Festivals List.
This is potentially a fantastic opportunity if I'm lucky enough to come down to this.
