Notes From Class:
-Film Authorship (Short Cuts) by C. Paul Sellors
-Why do we view the director as the author of the film? Marketing?
-Largely these views come from romanticism. The concept of a person having a ‘creative spark’ from a ‘genius’ is romanticism.
-We’re interested in where people get their ideas
-Until 1988, in the UK the producer had sole rights over the film. This is still the case in the USA. In the UK, the director also has moral rights. In France, the rights are owned by the director, screenwriter and composer.
-Property is at the core of common law
-Taste of Paradise by Schivelworth
