So I should have been doing documentary blog posts all along but, along with posts for the other parts of the course, I’ve gotten behind. However, now is the time to mend this little act of laziness.
The film I had intended to pitch was called ‘The Subjective Truth’ and was about The Troubles in Northern Ireland, dealing with the idea that people can twist facts in order to fit in with their particular biased perspectives. This film was to make extensive use of archive footage which I had done extensive research into. However, at the last minute, my footage fell through and I was finding it impossible to get access to more. I was back at square one. I’m passionate about this film and I made the decision that I didn’t want to cheapen it by using a less than perfect approach and rushing it within the confines of a university course. I came to the decision that the film would be better off left on the back burner until the required resources became available or the film was reshaped in a way which would be better than before, and so I chose not to pitch it.
This meant I had to choose another film to be part of and fortunately I got my first chance. I’m in a group with Becky Miková, Joe Rayner, Saga Buckbee and Emma Malins. The film is yet to be titled, however it is about Becky’s mother, Jana, growing up under the Russian occupation in Chechoslovakia.
