We also received loads of self-tapes back for Sonny, however to be honest, I really wasn't too sure about our replies. Lots of them interpreted the role as a cartoon villain, and I completely understand why someone would do this, because of the theatrical style of writing. However, not many of them possessed the more grounded, deeper quality I'm looking for in Kane. I honestly think I'm going to keep Ryan on as Kane, but I found it really interesting to see who else was out there and get an opportunity to see different interpretations of the character.
Here are a few examples of actors.
Christopher Scanlan was a lot of fun to watch, however he didn't seem to be the most reliable person in the work and, to be honest, it came across as more of a Joker impression.
Max McKinnon and Kareem Nasif both give really different, but still entertaining versions of the character. However, they were both English and I'd rather keep the cast all Scottish. Plus, I think they were maybe a little too old as well. They were talented though, so I'd be keen to work with them on something in the future.
Ultimately however, I think I will stay with Ryan for Kane. I really liked working with Ryan last year, and I think he really understands the character. Plus, Ruth seems to really like him. If I work with him much more on the character, I reckon he could do a good job.
