Moody Moody Moodboards

So I've been thinking a lot about the look I want for Radio Underground. Andrew was keen for the film to be black and white. I wasn't sure I liked the idea, however I considered it. People kept telling me to watch an episode of Black Mirror called Metal Head. Eventually I did. However, I did not much care for it...

Aside from the bad acting and lazy writing, I really didn't like the way the episode looked. I love black and white films; trust me. I was raised on film noir. However, something about the way the episode looked left a bad taste in my mouth and I couldn't quite put my finger on it. In theory, I liked the idea, but at the end of the day, it just felt a bit pretentious.

A film I far preferred the look of, is The Pianist. I liked the washed out colour palette and I always like wide angle lenses. The camera of The Pianist follows one character around, only leaving his side to give us a more objective view from a distance. I found this very effective. Really beautiful looking film.

I'd like to use predominantly use practical lighting. The colour palette should be washed out. The bunker should be slightly warmer colours and the outside world should be cold. Wide angle lenses would allow us to keep the camera right inside the character's personal space. We are intimate with character, feeling as though we are present in the same space with him, with the exception of more objective, distanced shots.

Below is a small sample of the mood board I put together with Aaron, but here is a link to a more extensive mood board we put together:

Third year is done. I don't think that's how anyone would have wanted the year to end, but there you go. It's a particular shame, because...
