So I today I discussed the sound design with Juliet. I want the only sound to come from Tom himself. His movements should be greatly exaggerated, like in Hukkle, but everything
else should be painfully silent. We tried to come up with this strange soundscape; inside the bunker, all sound diegetic. I discussed the possibility of score with Juliet. Perhaps we could use something very subtle in moments outside the bunker, however, inside should be purely diegetic.
I've talked previously about the sound design in 2001, and I think this would be perfect for the scenes where Tom has his mask on. It's really quite unsettling, yet intimate. The overpowering sound is breathing, something you aren't usually too aware of.
I love the soundscape of Sergio Leone westerns; they tend to be really atmospheric and I thought they would be interesting to look at with Juliet.
Similar to Hukkle, I also liked the highly exaggerated sounds used in 127 Hours.
To see the exact clips we discussed, here is a playlist with them all compiled in it:
However, it was pancake day, so a major focus was unashamedly on making pancakes!
