Lew Hunter's Screenwriting 434 was recommended to me by a friend. I have the same issue with all of these books though. Despite what they suggest, none of what they say are 'rules'. They are helpful to be aware of, but are in no way necessary. Anyway, here we go:
The hero hears the call to adventure.
The hero accepts the call to adventure.
The hero gives himself up for the greater good.
- Most of the time your script's problems are in the second act. Your hero needs to decide to stop being reactive and start being active. This should happen around the midpoint.
